The Dallas Cowboys are on the hunt for “bigger bodies” to fortify their defense under new coordinator Mike Zimmer. Zimmer, known for his successful defensive schemes in previous coaching roles, brings a different approach from the aggressive style employed by Dan Quinn.
With Zimmer at the helm, Cowboys vice president of player personnel, Will McClay, is focused on identifying playmakers who align with the new defensive philosophy. McClay emphasized the importance of finding athletes with the specific qualities Zimmer seeks, highlighting the need for size and athleticism.
“Zimmer’s scheme calls for bigger bodies,” McClay explained, pointing out a significant gap at linebacker that requires attention. He acknowledged that linebacker is a position of interest in both free agency and the upcoming NFL Draft.
The Cowboys, determined to bounce back from a disappointing season, have pledged to invest heavily in addressing defensive shortcomings, particularly after their playoff loss to Green Bay. Despite financial constraints, the team aims to make strategic upgrades, with McClay’s presence at the NFL Scouting Combine crucial in identifying potential targets for the upcoming season.
