Royal Never Give Up (RNG) stands among the 17 teams competing in the LPL Spring 2024, representing one of the most established and tradition-rich esports organizations in China. However, the present RNG appears to be a shadow of its former self.

Originally known as Royal Club, founded in 2012, RNG boasts a rich tradition as one of China’s oldest esports teams.

The pinnacle years of RNG are inseparable from the legendary marksman Uzi. Just like Uzi’s nickname, the “Great Failure,” RNG’s history is marked by heartbreaking losses. The traditionally rich esports team from China suffered two defeats in the World Championship finals and four losses in the LPL finals, along with many other regrettable setbacks.

RNG’s peak coincided with the golden era of SKT T1, often facing defeat from SKT in international tournaments. RNG became the first and only team in League of Legends history to lose in the World Championship finals for two consecutive years (2013 and 2014).

The year 2018 marked RNG’s most successful season, breaking the curse of second place and achieving victories in LPL Spring, MSI, and LPL Summer. Royal Never Give Up was on the verge of becoming the first LoL esports team to achieve a Grand Slam. However, the pressure and expectations led to RNG crumbling, resulting in an early exit from the World Championship.

After Uzi’s retirement in 2019, RNG continued its success with two LPL championships and two MSI titles. However, they have yet to secure a World Championship. From the 2023 season, RNG began to regress compared to other top LPL teams, finishing in the top 8 in the spring split and top 10 in the summer split.

In 2024, RNG made no notable additions and is not highly rated in the spring split.
