“Suits” Alums Patrick J. Adams and Gabriel Macht Reunite at Golden Globes, Discuss Show’s Netflix Success and Potential Spinoff
Despite being off the air for four years, “Suits” continues to enjoy a devoted fanbase. Patrick J. Adams and Gabriel Macht, who portrayed Mike Ross and Harvey Specter on the acclaimed legal drama, reunited at the 81st annual Golden Globes. The duo, along with co-stars Gina Torres and Sarah Rafferty, later shared the stage as presenters.
During an interview with ET at the Golden Globes Pre-Show presented by Variety, Adams and Macht reflected on the show’s recent surge in popularity on Netflix. Macht expressed gratitude for the show’s success and its newfound global audience.
“It’s an amazing thing,” Macht said. “We had some great success when the show was on. All over the world, there were people downloading it, pirating, downloading it. At a certain point, Netflix came in and said, ‘Why don’t we put this out there.’ And it’s just gotten incredible eyes. And we’re very grateful for it.”
The actors also touched upon the announcement of a “Suits” spinoff set in Los Angeles.
“I think it’s all in early stages,” Adams revealed. “It’s a show in the ‘Suits’ universe, like a ‘Suits L.A.’ Anyway, our fearless showrunner Aaron [Korsh is] working on that. If I got the phone call, I’d be ready to suit up again. I loved the show, I loved the character, and I loved working with all these people.”
In response to the possibility of Meghan Markle returning to the spinoff, Adams playfully entertained the idea: “Sure, Mike and Rachel in Seattle, they gotta come down to L.A. and fix some stuff.”
“Suits,” produced by UCP, originally aired on USA Network for nine seasons from 2011 to 2019. Despite its initial success, the show experienced a resurgence in popularity this year as it began streaming on Netflix. It dominated the charts for multiple weeks, breaking records on Nielsen’s Streaming Top 10 chart. The cast, which also included Rick Hoffman, Meghan Markle, Amanda Schull, Dulé Hill, and Katherine Heigl, contributed to the show’s enduring appeal. In November, Markle acknowledged the show’s continued success during Variety’s Power of Women event, attributing it to the timeless quality of good television.
