Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has provided a timeline for his recovery from a torn wrist ligament that prematurely concluded his 2023 season after 10 games.
“I think the middle of May is when I am expecting to be cleared for full contact and everything,” Burrow informed ESPN’s Ben Baby on Sunday. “Over the next month [to] month and a half, we’ll kind of decide all those things.”
Burrow underwent surgery on his wrist, ending his season on November 27 following a game against the Ravens earlier in the month. He disclosed to ESPN that he has begun incorporating throwing small medicine balls into his routine and aims to commence throwing a football during Bengals OTAs.
“I can lift basically normally now, which I’m excited about,” Burrow shared. “So the next two months, I’ll basically be just doing what I’ve done for the last couple of years. Just the 12 weeks of extra work in the rearview.”
Having signed a long-term contract with the Bengals last offseason, Burrow remains under contract through the 2029 season. He contended with a calf injury that contributed to Cincinnati’s sluggish start to the campaign (1-3) before the team found momentum in October. However, the wrist injury curtailed the remainder of his season, and despite solid performances from backup Jake Browning, the Bengals narrowly missed the postseason.
Burrow emphasized the need for the Bengals to replenish leadership roles and acquire suitable pieces in the offseason to bolster the team’s chances for a Super Bowl run in 2024.
“For Cincy to be good enough to make a Super Bowl run in 2024, first, Burrow must stay healthy.”
