Former Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte has openly discussed his dissatisfaction with certain aspects of life in Saudi Arabia, suggesting that many players are experiencing unhappiness.

Laporte, who became one of the high-profile signings in the Saudi Pro League last summer, left the Champions League winners to join Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr in a lucrative deal.

This week, England midfielder Jordan Henderson left Al-Ettifaq after less than six months to return to Europe with Ajax, and there are reports that Karim Benzema and Roberto Firmino are also seeking exits.

Although Laporte, 29, has not reached that point yet, he admits to facing challenges in adapting to his new environment.

The Spain international told AS: “It is a significant change compared to Europe, but ultimately, it is all about adaptation.

“They have not made it easy for us. In fact, there are many players who are discontented.

“But we are working on it every day, hoping it can improve a little. This is something new for them as well, having European players with long careers.

“Perhaps they are not accustomed to this and need to adapt a little more in terms of professionalism.”

Despite the substantial wages paid to players, Laporte feels they are not being treated as well as they are accustomed to at major European clubs.

He stated: “Yes, they take care of us, but not enough for my liking. In Europe, they pay you a good salary, but they take better care of you.

“I am not actively seeking to leave. I have not thought about it, but if I become unhappy in the near future, questions need to be asked. I haven’t reached that point, but it could be a possibility if this trend continues.”

Laporte also mentioned that it is not only the professional aspect of life that he finds challenging but also the day-to-day living.

He explained: “To be honest, many of us haven’t come here solely for football.

“Many of us are content with that, but I am seeking something beyond the economic aspect. In terms of quality of life, I had hoped for something different.”
